Dr. rer. nat. Dipl. Ing. Tzounis Lazaros is an Assoc. Professor at the University of Ioannina (UOI), Epirus, Greece – Physics department, Dept. of Solid State Physics and Physics of Materials & Surfaces. His expertise is in the field of “Experimental Solid State Physics: Electronic Devices”, with special focus in Printed Electronics, 3D Printing, Nanomaterials & Nanotechnology; utilizing AI, physics informed models and bio-inspired algorithms for new material properties, device architectures and fabrication processes.
He is the founder and Director of CSD-3D Lab (Composites, Structures & Electronic Devices – 3D Printing Laboratory) at UOI.
In 2010, he received a Diploma of Materials Sci. & Engineering from UOI, with honours. He moved then to Germany for his PhD working at the Technical University of Dresden and Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden. This was followed by a 6-month post-doc at the Leibniz Institute. Then, he moved to the Lab for Thin Films, Nanosystems & Nanometrology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece working in the field of organic & printed electronics for ca. three yrs. In 2017, he moved to Materials Sci. & Engin. Dept., UOI, as a Research Associate & Lecturer by contract, while being active in the writing-up and coordinating EU & National projects.
From 2021 to 2026 (Febr.), he has been elected and served as Assoc. Professor at the Hellenic Mediterranean University, Mechanical Engineering Dept., Greece, before joining UOI in March 2026.
Professor (Assoc.) Tzounis has attracted >5MEur total funding for the “Greek University” in the period 2015-2026, all from competitive EU (H2020, HEU, EDF), National (GSRI, HFRI) and Industry-driven R&D projects, upon returning back to Greece from his stay in Germany for his PhD and first post-doc position in 2010-2014.
He has more than 100 scientific publications and participated in >100 conferences with invited talks, posters & oral presentations with H-Index 52 and 7052 total citations, according to Google Scholar data base
