Participation in the Hackathon

At the EpirusBank OpenHackathon, teams can choose one of two participation Options, depending on how they prefer to innovate and what inspires them most:

Option 1 — Open Topic: “Innovation in Fintech”

Teams choosing the open topic are free to design any Fintech-related solution they want.

Option 2 — Tackle One of the Specific Challenges

If you prefer to work on a concrete, predefined real-world problem, you can choose one of the challenges defined by Epirus Bank

Teams choosing the open topic are free to design any Fintech-related solution they want.

They can build any app, tool, or prototype that improves the digital banking experience, makes financial services smarter, or solves a real customer need.
This track is ideal for teams who want full creative freedom.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Can we digitalize and classify hard copy of applications using AI?
  • Can we create an AI assistant that analyzes financial behavior and gives personalized suggestions?
  • Can we automate credit scoring using alternative data and machine learning?

Data Analytics & Big Data

  • Can we predict customer churn using transaction and behavioral patterns?
  • Can we generate smart spending insights from anonymized financial data?
  • Can we build a real‑time dashboard that monitors key financial or regional economic trends?

Accessibility

  • Can we design a banking app that is fully usable with voice only?
  • Can we automatically check and fix accessibility issues in digital banking journeys?
  • Can create a great ebanking experience for older or low-digital-savvy people?

Customer Experience (CX)

  • Can we simplify onboarding or KYC so it takes less than 1 minute?
  • Can we provide personalized, proactive alerts that truly improve customer financial decisions?
  • Can we unify support channels (chat, phone, email) into one intelligent customer hub?

Cyber Security

  • Can we detect phishing or fraud attempts before the user even clicks?
  • Can we authenticate users based on behavior rather than passwords?
  • Can we identify and block deepfake voice/video scams in real time?

Green Tech

  • Can we estimate the carbon footprint of each purchase and suggest greener options?
  • Can we score eco‑friendly SMEs for green loans using open data?
  • Can we monitor and reduce energy usage in branches or local businesses?

Option 2 — Tackle One of the Specific Challenges

If you prefer to work on a concrete, predefined real-world problem, you can pick this option and then choose one of the 5 challenges as defined by Epirus Bank.

Challenge #1 - Accessibility

Transform EpirusBank’s e-banking so new products become friendly and understandable for elderly users and people with low digital skills.
Make navigation, language, guidance, and product presentation simpler and clearer.

Challenge #2 - AI customer modeling

Analyze user behavior using a test transaction dataset and create:

  • a credit scoring model, and
  • personalized product recommendations powered by AI and machine learning.

Challenge #3 - Digitalization of Paperwork

Digitalize and analyze handwritten / printed applications and certificates using OCR + NLP.
Convert manual paperwork into structured, usable digital data.

Challenge #4 - Financial Literacy

Create an app or game that helps users better understand banking products.
Think: AI literacy assistant, gamified learning, interactive tutorials, visual explanations, etc.

Challenge #5 - Backoffice Digital Assistant

Build a digital assistant that supports bank employees and speeds up internal workflows.
For example: Use LLM + RAG to read documents from SharePoint and provide quick, accurate answers.

Use: a sample folder with documents to feed the RAG

Challenge 1 — Accessibility

Transform EpirusBank’s digital banking experience to make new products friendly and understandable for elderly users or people with low digital skills.
Improve clarity, navigation, guidance, language, simplicity, or interaction.

Challenge 2 — AI Customer Modeling

  • Provide fast, reliable answers to staff questions
